You Need Bran!
It is generally aggreed that most adults only get about half the fiber they need to prevent type II diabetes, heart disease and an array of other problems. Suggested intake of fiber is about 14 grams for every 1000 calories consumed. (Which means about 28 grams for the average American caloric intake). Men are believed to need 30-38 grams per day, and women 25-30. It is best to receive your fiber from whole foods. the majoruty of children today are only getting about 20 percent of the fiber needed on a daily basis. That, along with less than ideal diets, make it easy to see why there is a serious problem with children developing type II diabetes before they even reach their teens. There are two main forms of consumable fiber. Soluble fiber (meaning it basically dissolves in water/liquids) which becomes a gel-like substance in the digestive tract. This results in a slow down in the digestion of carbohydrates (starches and sugars) so that sugar is released and absorbed more slowly into the bloodstream. This is the type of fiber responsible for lowering cholesterol and regulating blood sugar. The second main type is insoluble fiber, which passes through the intestines withour really being broken down . It attracts and absorbs water as it comes into contact, which can increase the speed and bulk and promote more regular bowel functioning. Additionally insoluble fiber aids in the removal of toxic wastes from the body. The gentle 'scraping' of the intestinal walls helps to keep the intestines 'clean' and healthy whcih also helps to prevent colon problems including cancer. A great source of both of these fibers can be found in stabilized rice bran, which naturally contains both. regular daily consumption can be very helpful in maintaining overall health and regularity. For people suffering from bowel issues (IBS/IBD), regular, daily use may likely provide need relief from discomfort. Let's face it, healthy bowels make for more comfortable demeanors. |
